The Katydid™ Wood Stove
Perfect for Residential Homes, Mobile Homes, Cabins, Yurts, & Corner Installations
AN ULTRA-EFFICIENT MODERN WOOD BURNING STOVE
- When shopping for a modern wood stove, compact wood stoves, or small stoves for sale you’ll appreciate Katydid’s vertical orientation and compact footprint. But don’t let her small size fool you! Katydid™ can produce up to 55,000 BTU.
- That’s because Katydid™ squeezes more heat from less wood due to our patented gasifier wood stove technology, also used in our original small wood stove, Kimberly™ and our latest model, the Krikit™ wood burning stove, which is available as a free standing wood stove or soon as a wood burning fireplace insert. Our unique UL-approved venting system, is required because of Katydid’s unusually low flue temperatures.
- This modern wood burning stove is simple to operate and was designed for longevity and low maintenance. When more heat is required, Katydid™ is often preferred in smaller spaces over Kimberly™ due to Katydid’s bigger firebox and longer burn time, especially in western states where softwood species are most commonly burned. That’s because Katydid™ can still produce a clean burn, even on a small load.
- Katydid™ clients report burn times of up to 10 hours, embers-to-embers. While we can’t promise you a better night’s sleep, we can tell you that many of our Katydid™ clients do wake up to their Katydid™ wood burner that is often still warm to the touch, when burning a load of hardwood the night before. Generally enough live embers remain to make it easy for them to get their fire going again in the morning.
The Best Modern Wood Stove Design Features – Clean Lines, Compact Footprint
YOUR ON-GRID, OFF-GRID LIVING SOLUTION™
- Our patented gasifier technology uses a two-stage combustion process. This two-stage combustion process was first used in the design of our Kimberly™ small wood stove and used again in our compact wood stoves, Katydid™ and Krikit™.
- In the first combustion zone, flames are deliberately starved of oxygen. As the wood smolders in the bottom of the firebox, it vaporizes from a solid to wood gas {i.e. smoke}. As the smoke rises, the particulates are burned as fuel for the second combustion. When burning dry wood of 20% moisture or less in secondary combustion, Katydid’s chimney goes virtually smokeless.
- So whether it’s time to make this compact wood burning stove as your sole source of heat, a backup to your furnace, strictly for emergency preparedness, or to retire an inefficient wood burning stove already in your home, Katydid™ works well for either a corner wood stove or for a parallel wood burning stove installation.
- Tipping the scale at only 153 pounds, the Katydid™ indoor wood stove can be easily moved with a dolly, so installation is easy on your back. Of the small wood stoves for sale today, whether it be small wood stoves for cabins or yurts, small wood stoves for mobile homes, or an indoor wood stove for your traditional home, Katydid™ is an ideal choice given her small footprint and portability.
- This free standing modern wood stove was engineered specifically for on-grid, off-grid living and can accommodate optional thermo-electric generators (TEGs) or water coil system when they become available for sale.
